School of Nurse Anesthesia grads achieve unanimous pass rate

TCU's Nurse Anesthesia program is beaming with pride after 100 percent of the December 2007 graduating class passed their certification exams on the first try, which exceeds the national average by seven percent.

Dr. Christopher Watts named chair of Department of Communication, Sciences and Disorders

Dr. Christopher Watts has been named chair of Harris College’s Department of Communication, Sciences and Disorders (COSD). In addition to overseeing the academic arm of the COSD, Dr. Watts will also be responsible for the Miller Speech and Hearing Clinic. (more)

Center for Healthy Aging seeks participants for senior exercise program

The Center for Healthy Aging, in the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences, is seeking participants for a supervised exercise program beginning in August 2008. The 16-week program includes classes on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the TCU Recreation Center. Registration deadline is July 21, 2008. (more)

 

Speaker discusses education strategy for deaf Latino students

From teaching at the only university for the hearing impaired in the country to establishing bilingual education for the deaf in Barcelona, Spain, Communication Sciences and Disorder’s Green Honors Chair speaker has raised awareness of the need for multicultural education for deaf and partially deaf students. Scrambling for 9 years–A profile of Charity McCright

While most students worry about how to balance school, extracurricular activities, a social life and the occasional job, Charity McCright added “potential deployment to Iraq” onto her list during her time at TCU. Charity is on active duty in the Army. During her college career she was deployed once to the War in Iraq, and almost deployed a number of other times. (more)

 

As purple as the day is long: A profile on Mary Beth Walker

Mary Beth Walker’s first memory of TCU is a small, purple corduroy pillow with a horned frog on it that sat in her crib as a baby. Today, Mary Beth is the Assistant Director for Simulation in Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences. (more)

Joel Mitchell is tracking down the science behind hydration for the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. While summer 2007 didn’t break any heat records in Fort Worth, it was scorching in TCU’s Department of Kinesiology. (more)

A stepping stone into a social work career

The Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences’ department of social work is dedicated to providing students a well-rounded education to prepare them for graduate school or a career in the field of social work. Part of that education requires senior social work majors to practice their knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in a field education program. (more)
